
Knesset Hosts Conference Calling for Sovereignty over Judea and Samaria
Five Likud MKs hosted a Knesset conference on Monday, July 21, titled “Sovereignty Now,” promoting Israeli sovereignty over Judea and Samaria. The Sovereignty Movement NGO organized the event, emphasizing Jewish settlement and national claims.
Energy Minister Eli Cohen declared his support for settling a million Jews in the region, dismissing peace with Saudi Arabia if it meant conceding to a Palestinian state. Diaspora Minister Amichai Chikli praised the establishment of unrecognized farms and settlements.
Former US Ambassador David Friedman proposed a "Puerto Rico model" where Palestinians would have local governance without national voting rights. Justice Minister Yariv Levin, Speaker Amir Ohana, and others also attended.
Maj.-Gen. (res.) Gershon Hacohen stressed that military and civilian presence in high points across Judea and Samaria are crucial for Israel’s security. He also said settlement expansion would help ease coastal congestion.
Under current law, these areas are considered under temporary belligerent occupation by the IDF. However, legislation passed recently has escalated Israel's formal integration of certain sectors. (JPost/VFI News)
